Chapter 20

Kendra hung up, and Quinn was on his way up to Loni Cooper’s office. He told her that he didn’t talk over the phone when it had to do with business, that the lines were never secure enough for him. Kendra said that she understood, and that he should just come up. Seconds later the door to Loni’s office opened and Quinn walked in. He sat next to his aunt, hugging her. Quinn put his arm around her to offer his comfort and asked her how her friend was doing.

“I don’t know, Quinn. I’m waiting on Loni to get back in here now. She is still with Deanna.” Kendra was not expecting any good news when Loni did return.

“That’s fucked up,” Quinn said.” But my boy’s paid Mr. Attorney a visit at his office a little while ago.”

“That’s what his ass gets. He should be fucking dead, the sick son of a bitch,” she replied, looking up as the door opened again and Loni Cooper entered her office. She smiled at Quinn, already knowing exactly who he was. He had made a couple passes at her in the past, but she wasn’t into the bad-boy type, even though something about him was different.

“So what’s going on?” Kendra asked.

“Good thing is that she will be all right, and the baby is fine. The bad thing is that I agree with you. Her husband is going to kill her one day,” Loni said. Loni was disgusted by the whole ordeal.

“I told you, girl, this nigga has lost it,” Kendra replied. “Can I see her yet?”

“She should be just regaining consciousness,” Loni said as she looked at her watch. “Deanna is heavily sedated right now and should be more responsive in about an hour,” Loni explained.

Quinn was looking at Loni Cooper, and she was even more beautiful in her uniform than he remembered. Her intelligence was a big turn on to him also. Loni was a lot different from the women he chased in the nightclubs, she had some real substance about her.

“I think we need to move on Kendra’s plan B,” Quinn added. Loni looked at Kendra, she already knew where this was going. She had started it with the last conversation, and now that it was more serious than Loni thought, she was willing to help.

“Deanna would have to totally help us and agree to go along with whatever we decide. In my experience with cases like this, the woman usually blames herself for her husband’s abuse toward her. They always wonder what it is that they can do differently, so that they wouldn’t cause the man to react the same way. I think that your friend thinks that giving
